Food intolerance

A food intolerance is a non-immune digestive reaction to specific foods or their components - distinct from a food allergy which involves the immune system. Common intolerances include lactose intolerance, histamine intolerance, fructose malabsorption, and gluten sensitivity. A healthy and diverse microbiome aids digestion and reduces the likelihood of intolerances developing while dysbiosis can worsen or trigger intolerances over time.
