Gas and flatulence

Intestinal gas produced during bacterial fermentation of undigested carbohydrates is completely normal in small amounts. Excessive gas, bloating, and flatulence signal that fermentation is occurring too rapidly, in the wrong location as in SIBO, or by the wrong bacteria. High-gas bacteria tend to dominate in dysbiosis while a diverse balanced microbiome produces gas more gradually and efficiently. Probiotics that modulate microbial composition can significantly reduce excess gas production.
