Gut barrier

The gut barrier is the single-cell-thick wall separating intestinal contents from the bloodstream - one of the most critical structures in human health. It selectively allows nutrients through while blocking pathogens, toxins, and undigested particles. When tight junctions between these cells weaken - a state known as leaky gut - systemic inflammation follows. A healthy microbiome is essential to maintaining gut barrier integrity.
