Lactobacillus is the most recognised probiotic genus - found in yogurt, kefir, and fermented vegetables. Lactobacillus species produce lactic acid which lowers gut pH and creates a hostile environment for pathogens. Different strains have specific clinical applications: L. rhamnosus GG for antibiotic-associated diarrhea, L. crispatus for vaginal microbiome health, L. plantarum for gut barrier support and IBS symptoms, and L. paracasei for immune function.
