Vaginal microbiome

Unlike the gut where diversity is desirable the vaginal microbiome is healthiest when dominated by a single genus: Lactobacillus. This dominance creates an acidic vaginal environment that protects against bacterial vaginosis, yeast infections, sexually transmitted infections, and pregnancy complications including preterm birth. Supporting vaginal Lactobacillus populations through targeted oral probiotics is an evidence-based strategy with strong clinical backing.
