Virome (gut)

The virome is the viral component of your microbiome - a vast community of bacteriophages living in the gut. The virome is numerically the largest component of the microbiome estimated to contain 10 times more viral particles than bacterial cells yet it remains the least understood. Bacteriophages help regulate bacterial populations and can transfer genetic material between bacterial species. Virome research is an emerging frontier with significant implications for understanding IBS, IBD, and antibiotic resistance.
